Breastfeeding and Lactation Consultation

Some of the services are:

  • Individual Lactation Consultation
  • Peer Counselor Support
  • Infant Feeding Education and Support
  • Breast Pumps Available

Prenatal breastfeeding classes, one on one lactation consultation, manual and electric breast pumps, are available free to all WIC clients. Breastfeeding support staff will determine eligibility for breast pumps.  

Individual breastfeeding consults include:

  • Helping babies latch correctly, increasing or decreasing milk supply, overcoming breastfeeding obstacles, pain, tips on how to return to work or school, re-lactation or inducing lactation, oral restrictions, and more. 
  • Pumps for high risk infants, returning to work/school, individual occasional relief feeds (double electric and hand pumps)
  • Infant feeding and breastfeeding support line: to request information about breastfeeding, artificial breast milk, pumps, weaning, introduction of bottle or solid foods, classes, support groups and other nutritional questions - call (352) 540-6924
  • Peer Counselors for prenatal or breastfeeding mothers - Call (352) 540-6924

Free Breastfeeding Classes and after-hours Breastfeeding Support Group Open to the Public Weekly!  


  • Infant Feeding and Breastfeeding Class: Held weekly at the Hernando County Health Department in Spring Hill: 7551 Forest Oaks Blvd. Spring Hill, FL 34606 Tuesday and Wednesday 11AM-12:30PM. Brooksville: 300 S. Main St., Brooksville, FL 34601. Last Tuesday of the month 11AM-12:30PM. Call to sign up at 352-540-6924.
  • Baby & Me Night Out! Breastfeeding & Infant Feeding Support Group: Meets every Thursday from 7:00-8:30PM at the FL Department of Health Hernando County, Classroom A &B. 7551 Forest Oaks Blvd. Spring Hill, FL 34606.
