An average of 15 Floridians a day die of drug overdoses.
Be smart. Be safe. Get help.
On average 15 Floridians a day die of drug overdoses. Hernando County is responding with Overdose Data to Action (OD2A). To combat the opioid crisis, OD2A’s goal is to enhance overdose surveillance to develop data informed overdose prevention activities.
Overdose prevention activities, such as the distribution of naloxone (Narcan) at DOH-Hernando, will help to make the difference, one resident at a time.
Naloxone is a medication that reverses the effects of an opioid overdose, restoring breathing and consciousness within minutes of being administered to a person who has overdosed. Naloxone can be administered by a bystander (non-health care professional) before emergency medical assistance becomes available, but it is not intended to substitute for professional medical care. Individuals should call 911 immediately when an opioid overdose is suspected, before administering naloxone.
Free Naloxone kits are available at DOH-Hernando’s Spring Hill and Brooksville locations. For more information, call 352-540-6800.
