Healthy Start in Hernando County exists to make sure pregnant women get free services and important education to help them improve their health before, during and after pregnancy. And, help families care for their infants through their first 3 years so they are healthy and ready to learn.
We do this by providing ongoing free Parenting Education, Childbirth Education classes, Breastfeeding Education, Nutritional Education, and Smoking Cessation services. We also work closely with other agencies in the community who can provide additional services and support.
Because it is the law, doctors, nurses or other medical personnel must work with new mothers or mothers-to-be to complete a prenatal screen or infant screen for Healthy Start. When you say “yes” to receive these free services, you become the greatest champion for having a healthy baby and giving your toddler an excellent way to being ready to learn.
