Most Refugee Resettlement Program participants received an overseas medical examination prior to coming to the U.S. Once here, refugees are offered a health assessment within 90 days of their arrival (or 90 days of becoming eligible for services) at no charge to them, including vaccinations needed for adjustment of immigration status. These health services are administered by the Refugee Health Program and provided by local county health departments. Refugees with identified health conditions are referred to primary care physicians and specialists for follow-up healthcare. Refugee Health Case Managers, where available, assist refugees with identified health conditions in accessing and navigating the healthcare system.
