Overdose Data to Action

Florida Department of Health in Hernando County

Be Smart. Get Help.

On average 15 Floridians a day die of drug overdoses. Hernando County is responding with OD2A.  The goal of OD2A is to enhance overdose surveillance to develop data informed overdose prevention activities.

OD2A is currently funded through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s  (CDC) Overdose Data to Action cooperative agreement.

Overdose prevention activities such as the distribution of Narcan(Naloxone) at DOH-Hernando will help to make the difference, one resident at a time.

Narcan is available at no charge at the Spring Hill and Brooksville offices of the Department of Health. Call 352-540-6800 for more information.

Naloxone is a medication that reverses the effects of an opioid overdose, restoring breathing and consciousness within minutes of being administered to a person who has overdosed. Naloxone can be administered by a bystander (non-healthcare professional) before emergency medical assistance becomes available, but it is not intended to substitute for professional medical care. Individuals should call 911 immediately when an opioid overdose is suspected, before administering Naloxone.

Naloxone kits are free. People using Naloxone receive educational material, referrals, and connections for substance abuse intervention.

Call 352-540-6800 for more information on naloxone.
