By Ashley D. Thomas

December 30, 2020

Brooksville- On Monday, January 4, the Florida Department of Health in Hernando County (DOH-Hernando) will begin offering the COVID-19 vaccine to adults age 65 and older. Vaccine supply is limited and will be offered by appointment only.

There will be no cost for COVID-19 vaccines offered by DOH-Hernando.

Appointments may be made by calling 352-540-6800 and choosing option 1. Due to high call volume you may have to leave a message. Be assured that you will receive a return phone call. Calls will be returned in the order they are received. Please do not leave multiple messages.

Only the Moderna vaccine will be given at this time. Prior to receiving the vaccine, individuals will be required to sign an informed consent form. A Moderna Fact Sheet with information on what to expect during and after the injection will also be given before receiving the vaccine.

Individuals are encouraged to contact their primary care provider with questions about whether they should receive the vaccine before making an appointment.

Each person will receive a 2nd dose reminder card that lists the date and the manufacturer for the first vaccination. The 2nd dose of the Moderna vaccination should be received 28 days after the initial dose. The second dose must be from the same manufacturer as the first vaccine.

After receiving the vaccination, recipients will remain on site for 15 minutes for medical monitoring.

Information regarding availability and future vaccine clinics will be shared with media outlets, posted online at Hernando.FLHealth.gov and on the Department’s social media site at Twitter.com/HealthyHernando.

For information on specific medical conditions that may affect an individual's ability to receive this vaccine, please visit the Moderna website at modernatx.com/covid19vaccine-eua/recipients/.
