Brooksville, Fla. The Florida Department of Health in Hernando County will be implementing a change in services on May 1, 2017. On that date, the health department will no longer offer primary care, adult/child wellness and sick care, prenatal care, mental health services and dental services. These services will continue under a third party, which has yet to be named.

Existing clients affected by this change were notified via letter the week of February 8, 2017.

Core Public Health Will Continue

Like many county health departments across the state, we are making a transition out of primary care, Robin Napier, health department administrator shared. As we make this transition, Id like to reassure the public that our health department will remain open and will continue to focus on core public health.

Core public health programming such as family planning, birth control, womens health services, tuberculosis (TB), HIV/AIDS, hepatitis and Sexually Transmitted Disease (STDs) screenings/treatment, HIV/AIDs medical care, childhood and adult immunizations, Women, Infants and Children (WIC), breast feeding promotion and support, birth and death certificates, and environmental health services will continue.

As more information becomes available, it will be updated on the departments website at Hernando.FloridaHealth.Gov.
