DOH-Hernando reduces testing, shifts COVID-19 efforts to additional vaccination

As the supply of COVID-19 vaccine increases, the focus of the Florida Department of Health in Hernando County (DOH-Hernando) is shifting from testing to vaccination. Starting Monday, February 22 the Department will offer COVID-19 testing on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays at the Spring Hill office by appointment only.

COVID-19 case investigations and contact tracing will continue at the health department. Individuals who test positive will still be contacted by DOH-Hernando staff, regardless of where they were tested, and provided instructions on next steps.

"We are enhancing our efforts to vaccinate our community as quickly and efficiently as possible,” said DOH-Hernando Administrator Robin Napier.

While DOH-Hernando has been a major provider of COVID-19 testing in the community, a number of agencies are available to provide the test. Residents are encouraged to contact each agency directly with questions about availability.

Individuals who receive a test from DOH-Hernando or another facility are encouraged to download the Healthy Together App to receive their results electronically as soon as they become available.

Antibody tests are not available at DOH-Hernando.

All residents are reminded to continue to follow public health preventive measures such as wearing a face covering while around other people in public, practice social distancing and thorough handwashing to mitigate the transmission of COVID-19 in the community.
